CROSS SECTION
Launched in 2023 with the aim of broadening the perspectives that converge within the genre, the “Cross Section” is a space dedicated to reflection, dialogue and diversity through fantastic cinema. This program brings together a selection of works that address gender, queer and LGTBIQ+ issues within the realm of fantastic cinema, demonstrating that the genre can also serve as a vehicle for exploring our social and identity-related realities.
In addition to the screenings, the “Cross Section” is also conceived as a meeting point for filmmakers, specialists, partner organisations and the public. Thus, each year it includes a Colloquium in which the themes raised by the selected works are analysed, encouraging the exchange of ideas and critical thinking. This section also features the Helena Cortesina International Short Film Festival, a festival that highlights the role of women in cinema and awards a special mention linked to this particular section of FANTAELX.
